Hello My Name is Jesus:  Our Example

Scripture reference:  Hebrews 12:1-3

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

  1. REMOVE the DETERRENTS from your life.

“… let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.” v.1a

  • Psalm 1:1 – Oh, the joys of those who do notfollow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers.

  • Proverbs 28:13-Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.

  1. RETURN to ACTION!

“And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us...” v.1b

  • 1 Thessalonians 4:1 – Finally, dear brothers and sisters, we urge you in the name of the Lord Jesus to live in a way that pleases God, as we have taught you. You live this way already, and we encourage you to do so even more.

  • Philippians 1:22 -If I am to live in the flesh, that means fruitful labor for me.

  1. REFOCUS on the right GOAL.

“… fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith…”  v.2a

  • Philippians 3:12- Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal…

  1. REMEMBER what Jesus EXPERIENCED for you and me.

“For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider  him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”  vs.2a-3

  • Isaiah 53:3-5 – He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.  Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.  Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering,  yet we considered him punished by God,  stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.
