Hello My Name is Jesus:  Our Anchor

Scripture reference:  Hebrews 6:17-20

17 So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath, 18 so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us. 19 We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, 20 where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.

  1. For believers, there is a FUTURE HOPE.

“…hold fast to the hope set before us.” v.18b

Hebrews 10:23 – Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.

  1. For believers, a future hope is made CERTAIN because of God’s PROMISE.

“So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath, so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us.”  v.17-18

Psalm 110:4– The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind…

  1. As a believer, my future hope is made POSSIBLE by the SACRIFICE of Jesus.

“This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary. 20 Jesus has already gone in there for us. He has become our eternal High Priest in the order of Melchizedek.”  vs.19-20
